Performance & Latency

The Apple Extended Keyboard II, using the ADB interface, had excellent latency for its time with response times around 10-15ms. The mechanical Alps switches provided crisp tactile feedback. While modern keyboards have lower electronic latency, the AEK II is still considered one of the best typing experiences due to its high-quality mechanical switches.

History

The Apple Extended Keyboard II, introduced in 1990, is considered one of the finest keyboards Apple ever produced. It featured high-quality Alps mechanical switches that provided excellent tactile feedback and durability. The keyboard had a solid, heavy construction and included a full complement of function keys and a numeric keypad.

Used with Apple's ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) interface, the AEK II was compatible with Macintosh computers from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s. It remains highly sought-after by keyboard enthusiasts and collectors for its superior typing feel and build quality. The keyboard was discontinued in 1994 as Apple transitioned to newer, lower-cost designs.
